Students from all years and disciplines are invited to submit posters describing aspects of their doctoral research. Each poster will be evaluated on technical merit, innovation, and its potential to stimulate interesting discussions and exchanges at the conference. Posters will be selected based on a short abstract (up to 250 words, with 5 relevant keywords). Upon acceptance of the abstract, authors will receive guidelines for submitting posters.

1. Poster Specification 48”w x 36”h – landscape – pdf file no greater than 25mb in size . You are NOT required to print your poster for this online competition. Use this file naming convention for your PDF file: 2024-FIIB-FIRSTNAME-LASTNAME.pdf (upper or lowercase)
2. All submissions are to be made using the conference management tool link that will be sent to the authors upon registration.
3. Only one poster is allowed per entrant.
4. Posters must relate to an aspect of the entrant’s doctoral research.
5. Entries will be shortlisted by a panel drawn from the Consortium organising committee.
6. Posters can be landscape or portrait oriented.
7. We reserve the right to disqualify entries that don’t comply with the competition requirements.

Communicate the significance of your thesis in a compelling and accessible way. The three minutes thesis competition is an exciting event which supports the capacity of the scholars to effectively explain their research in three minutes in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Participating in the three minutes thesis competition will facilitate the development of presentation and research communication skills among scholars. The overall objective of this competition is to provide a supportive environment for scholars to prosper towards professional development, boost their motivation towards their final dissertation presentation and provide an excellent networking environment.

Who can

participate?

Candidates who have passed their confirmation milestone (including those whose thesis is in submission) by the date of their first presentation are eligible to participate.

Please Note: Doctoral researchers who have already had their viva are not eligible to participate. First-year doctoral researchers are not eligible to enter the three minutes competition.

1. A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (no slide transitions, animations, or ‘movement’ of any description are permitted).
2. No additional electronic media (e.g., sound and video files) are permitted.
3. No additional props (e.g., costumes, instruments (musical, laboratory, etc.) are permitted.
4. Entries will be shortlisted by a panel drawn from the Consortium organising committee.
5. Presentations are limited to three minutes maximum.
6. All submissions are to be made using the conference management tool link that will be sent to the authors upon registration.

The following criteria will guide the judges’ decisions. Each criterion is equally weighted and has an emphasis on the audience.

1. The presentation provided clear background and significance to the research question
2. The presentation clearly described the research strategy/design and the results/findings of the research
3. The presentation clearly described the conclusions, outcomes, and impact of the research

1. The oration was delivered clearly, and the language was appropriate for a non-specialist audience
2. The PowerPoint slide was well-defined and enhanced the presentation
3. The presenter conveyed enthusiasm for their research and captured and maintained the audience’s attention
