NeverStopLearning
“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty”
1. How has FIIB helped you in your career journey?
FIIB to my career is what a foundation is to a building. Both academic and extra-curricular endeavors at FIIB taught me some of the most important lessons that continue to guide my behavior in the workplace. I also gained lifelong mentors in the faculty and dear friends in colleagues. My first job after FIIB was with Itu Chaudhuri Design (ICD). I was able to land there partly because ICD’s owner was a client of one of our professors at FIIB and he introduced us. I was able to impress him with the subject matter of marketing and brand management that I had learned at FIIB. The factor here was also that I had earned my professor’s trust by rigorously studying and gaining knowledge of the subject matter.
2. In life, why you should Never Stop Learning, especially at work.
Something that we have all learned recently, especially with the pandemic is how quickly things can change at the workplace. Being a perpetual student or #neverstoplearning is the only way to deal with it; not only new skills but also new processes are implemented at the workplace. The pace at which the next organizational change happens is increasing with each financial year. From experience, I can also assure you that regardless of your company or role, you will transition to a leadership skillset over a performance skillset. You will need to focus a lot more on your soft skills to handle this change effectively. That said, the current focus for you should still be on skills that help you perform your tasks efficiently during the entry-level phase of your career. “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning is young.” – Henry Ford
3. Tell us about a time when you had to learn something new.
Once the lockdown hit, we had to start operating a lot of previously on-ground activities in the online medium. To be able to contribute to this, I learned Machine Learning using Python by IBM, over a 3-month course that required about 2 hours a day. It allowed me to automate the email marketing for the verticals I was responsible for and then make it predictive. Our e-mailers saw a significant increase in views rate and response rate within 4 months of implementing this.
4. Lastly, a message that you want to share with the students of FIIB students.
Finally, my message to all FIIB students would be to remember that there is at least one thing that everyone you meet knows, that you do not. Try to learn from them. I do hope you have a wonderful time at FIIB and your career ahead.
