Managing Stress While Staying Motivated

As part of our spotlight series this month, we had a chat with, Mr Satyendra Kumar who is a Political Consultant at I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee). He shares his thoughts on how he manages stress, stays motivated, and makes important decisions while maintaining a work-life balance.
How much stress is involved in your present work and how do you manage your stress? What are the different ways in which you keep yourself motivated and focus on the work?
The stress level is extreme mainly at the time of the election. Many factors need to be taken care of during the election or before the election when we design the campaign. We have to manage teams, and day-to-day targets must be met so that we can then analyze the inputs received from the ground, and then based on that we act further. To manage the stress level proper planning of the tasks along with the execution plan must be concrete so that it does not cause unnecessary stress. Also, we identify the possible hurdles that might come during the execution so that if there are any, then we can mitigate them.
Do you think emotions play a vital role in making decisions?
Yes, it does play. But, decisions taken based on emotion might lead to distortion of the larger picture. We work in a domain where personal emotion should be kept aside and think about the masses. We don’t take any decision because I or someone else thinks that it is right. A decision-maker should always think about how maximum people can benefit from it.
Does Behavior strategy help in your planning campaigning or how do you plan your campaigns?
Yes, it does play an important role or I would say we plan our entire campaign on the behaviour of the citizens. We do research or we can say we perform AB testing and then we analyze the best way to take it further. Our entire campaign is based on the behaviour of the citizens, what are their needs, and how we can solve them. How many people will get the benefit of it?
What values have helped you to grow professionally?
Self-motivation, confidence, and positivity helped me to grow in my career. When I joined this political domain, there was a motivation to change society in terms of contributing to policy-making and advising the political parties. The suggestions are based on the research and needs of the people gives me confidence and when I see these things being implemented it gives me positivity and pushes me to work harder for the betterment of society.
What message would you like to give to FIIB students?
Would like to give only one message this is the perfect time to choose and shape your career. Choose wisely according to your interests. My current employer Societe Generale’s digital transformation was initiated several years ago. It is based on two key parameters, technology and innovation, to better serve clients. As a traditional bank, its technological limitations needed to evolve, more particularly towards modular and open architectures and through hybrid (private and public) cloud adoption for its infrastructures. The lockdown period has been one of intense activity for Societe Generals. We supported our clients by combining our human and digital strengths intoapidly reconfigure our products and services to meet their immediate needs. Another priority was to protect our employees and ensure our business continuity, with the worldwide rollout of simultaneous remote working.
